Steven De Schrijver joins Agio Legal

November 21, 2022: EXCITING NEWS! From 16 November, one of the leading experts in Belgium on cross-border M&A in the TMT & Life Science sectors and Technology Law, Steven De Schrijver joined the highly-touted ranks of Agio Legal. After 10 years as a partner at Astrea, he is once again rejoining forces with Philippe Van den Broecke, founding partner of Agio Legal. Together with his team, Steven will significantly strengthen Agio Legal’s Mergers & Acquisitions and TMT (Technology, Media and Telecom) departments and its international practice.

Steven began his career in 1993. Projects such as the launch of Belgium’s first mobile phone network, the Yellow Pages War, setting up some of the first e-commerce platforms, overseeing the first major pan-European privacy projects, the acquisition of Telenet and the Flemish cable network gave an important twist to his career. Indeed, dedicated technology lawyers were rare at the time and his expertise steadily expanded into technology and privacy law. Over the years, he supervised more than 100 cross-border transactions often in collaboration with reputable foreign law firms. Steven also advises numerous well-known technology companies on a wide variety of matters.

Today, Steven De Schrijver can be contacted for mergers and acquisitions mainly but not exclusively in the Tech and Life Sciences sector and for advice on complex technology contracts (e.g. outsourcing, software and cloud contracts) and privacy and telecom law issues. In addition, he often advises on advanced technology such as artificial intelligence, drones, medtech and digital transformations.

During his career, Steven received, amongst others, no fewer than seven awards as Who’s Who Legal Data Lawyer of the Year and Lexology Client Choice awards for Corporate Law and Data Protection Law. These awards are based on recommendations from peers and clients.

After over 29 years in other Belgian law firms, he feels it is time for a new significant step in his career, Steven De Schrijver says: “The biggest reason for this change was that I needed a new challenge. With Agio Legal, I found a firm with a real entrepreneurial spirit and a very ambitious growth trajectory that is also fully committed to supporting my cross-border M&A and TMT practice. Furthermore, I fully identify with Agio Legal’s core values and focus on a personal approach and creating added value for our clients. Also, the multidisciplinary services I can offer, through business partners Agio Capital and Agio Finance, to my clients can add value to my clients’ business.”

Commenting on this exciting news, Philippe Van den Broecke, the fouding partner of Agio Legal, says: “I am very happy and proud that we were able to convince a lawyer of Steven’s calibre and international reputation to join our project and that I can work with him again after 10 years. Steven is a hard-working and dedicated lawyer whose experience in the technology sector and responsiveness is highly valued by tech companies and foreign law firms that often call on his expertise. His sector and international focus aligns perfectly with Agio Legal and the activities of our business partner Agio Capital. Moreover, Steven is a lovely and warm personality who always puts himself at the service of others, values that fit with the corporate culture of Agio. We therefore particularly welcome him and his team to the Agio family.”
